WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING...

"Jo Wood-Brown has a unique knack for putting the visual experience of an art work into words and connecting that work to a larger contemporary, as well as, historic context. Her enthusiasm is contagious as she elicits lively discussion among artists, art lovers and less informed viewers." – Jessica Weiss, Artist

"I see a Day In Art Tours as exposure for the artists as well as the viewers. It is an education on both parts- the artist is forced to see their own work in response to others and the viewers are exposed to a world in which it is necessary to create in order to survive. By visiting studios Dialogues are established between the artist and viewers, which would not happen if the work were hanging in a gallery. The dialogues open up different avenues of discussion and it is enlightening for both sides." – Susan Mastrangelo, Artist

"I think your tours are the absolute best way one can see art!  You take people to the absolute most interesting places and always have a thoughtful and intelligent insite into the work.  If it weren't for your tours I wouldn't have seen anything much at all in the last couple of years.  I really look forward to all your tours!" – Deborah French, artist, client

"Your tours are wonderful!!  A personal and unique perspective on art in New York.  An opportunity to experience the artwork directly, helping each individual to develop a visual perspective of their own.  Small group discussions also enrich the viewing of each artist's studio (personal workspace) and artwork.  Truly a New York experience with an experienced artist, Jo Wood-Brown."
Jenny Ross, client

"Jo’s art tours are intimate, involving and inspirational! I always come away from “A Day in Art” appreciating the aesthetic as well as the philosophical approach artists consider toward their subjects. Our small group is introduced to a diverse spectrum of styles, media and venues each time we attend.  Our tours produce many surprises, whether meeting artists in their private studio, viewing an exhibition in a neighborhood gallery or a large museum. New York City affords such a vast array of opportunity to view art and yet somehow it becomes an overwhelming task when one is on their own. With her soft spoken wisdom and great enthusiasm Jo simplifies this process, making each session of “A Day in Art” extremely enjoyable and enlightening."
– Sara Gilbert, client

"I love your art tours because of your knowledge of the history of art, your knowledge of the New York art world and your love of art.  Your tours are very interesting because you put together exhibits that relate to each other by collection, history or a particular part of the city. You know how to review and edit an exhibit prior to the tour so that your group gets the maximum impact from the exhibit or group of exhibits.  Because you are an artist/painter you give the tour a special dimension because you see the work we are viewing through an artist's eye."
– Sandra Nystrom, Collector, Client, Art student

"What I find particularly wonderful about Jo's tours is that she comes
at the work from two distinct angles and weaves them together:  one,
from an intuitive, associative angle, and two, from a more analytical,
research-oriented angle. She arrives at each tour with full lecture
notes, having repeatedly visited the works and done background
research, but in the end it is her artist's mind which makes the most
interesting insights, leaps and connections, and that sort of discovery
isn't easily found. I feel I always leave one of her tours with some
new gem tucked in my pocket, knowledge of an artwork I might have
passed by without her lead. I still recall clearly a modest-sized el
Greco with a vertically piled-up composition and a small self-portrait
of Frida Kahlo that shimmered. Sometimes I even found myself liking
works that were not to my taste out of Jo's sheer personal enthusiasm
for the work. I really do believe it is her practice as an artist which
lends this ability to bring the work to you so deeply."
